On July 8, 2010, the Fairfax County School Board entertained and passed a motion by School Board member Liz Bradsher, Springfield District, to close Clifton Elementary School.
This action shutters the lone school in that portion of the county to answer 'overcrowding', leaving over 10% of Fairfax County without a school and more students in fewer schools.
