QUICK FACTS...
YOUR School Matters...

Older and historic neighborhood schools matter because they serve as anchors for healthy communities.

Take a few minutes and assemble students from your class in your community school for a great photo and submit it to The National Trust for Historic Preservation's "This Place Matters" photo campaign.

Not only will it teach your kids the importance of protecting what is irreplaceable, but your photo will be added to The National Trust's slideshow of classes around the country that think their schools matter.

Economy & Ecology...
it's all about the GREEN!

"Preservation is the ultimate recycling. Preservation by its nature is sustainability…The greenest building is the one that is already standing. Unlike many of their more recent counterparts, many historic and older buildings were built to last. Their durability gives them their renewability.”
Richard Moe, President Emeritus
National Trust for Historic Preservation

"Clusters"...

FCPS organizes its schools by 'pyramids' or in relation to their community high school and then clusters them together for administrative purposes. These are subject to change in the Annandale and Southwestern County Boundary Studies.

Cluster I  (1)--Herndon, Langley, and McLean pyramids
Cluster II  (2)--Falls Church, Madison, and Marshall pyramids
Cluster III  (3)--Annandale, Stuart, and Woodson pyramids and Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology
Cluster IV  (4)--Hayfield, Mount Vernon and West Potomac pyramids
Cluster V  (5)--Edison, Lee, and South County pyramids
Cluster VI (6)--Lake Braddock, Robinson, and West Springfield pyramids
Cluster VII (7)--Centreville, Chantilly, and Fairfax pyramids
Cluster VIII (8)--Oakton, South Lakes, and Westfield pyramids
Modulars...

Bungalows, trailers, portables, relocatables, temporary classrooms - the short term fix that is pennywise and pound foolish for preserving quality community-centered schools throughout Fairfax County.
